Bella Simpson, trans woman

Bella Simpson

Bella Simpson says she has always been very feminine, but at 11 years old realized that she had to "be herself" at school to be happy. Understanding the language related to the trans community was a big step for her and her family.

Simpson notes that it is important for the trans community to unfold outside the gay community, to which it is often mixed in. While these two communities share common struggles, she explains that it is necessary to develop an understanding that gender and sexual identity are two different components of identity.

Simpson is involved in her community and hopes to inspire other trans youth to live their lives as they want: "Trans and gender diverse people are like everybody else and they can do incredible things, and they can conquer the world and they can be themselves and they don't need anyone else's stamp of approval to go out and do that."
